PowerSchool Introduction

PowerSchool is the student information system used by Isle of Wight County Schools (IWCS). IWCS uses PowerSchool to develop class schedules, take attendance, store grades, produce transcripts, report cards, and more. Parents and guardians of students enrolled in Isle of Wight County Schools will now be able to view student progress through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

PowerSchool “brings together teachers, students, parents and administrators” in an easily used web-based data system. PowerSchool, and the parent portal, may be accessed from any location with Internet access. The application uses a secure link that encrypts the data to and from the end user and is very secure.

For previous users of the PowerSchool Parent Portal:  PowerSchool recently introduced a new login system called Single Sign On (SSO). SSO gives parents quicker and more convenient access to PowerSchool data. SSO allows parents and guardians to set up their own individual login credentials and, for those with multiple students in the division, access to all their students' information with a single login. In addition, SSO allows users to retrieve forgotten login and password information themselves rather than contacting their child’s school.  SSO also allows users to access Parent Portal through Pearson’s new mobile app.  You will need to reset any previous email notifications connected with your child’s account through the new SSO login system.

Instructions for creating a parent account were on the back of the letter you received from your child's school.  The instructions can also be found at this link:  Creating an Account. You can also view a brief video produced by Pearson for parents at:   http://tinyurl.com/oho8esu. Note that the video references a slightly older version of PowerSchool, so while the account creation process is the same, the screens seen once the demonstrator logs in are slightly different.

If you have any issues accessing the Parent Portal, please contact your student's school.

PowerSchool Parent Portal Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PowerSchool Parent Portal?

The IWCS PowerSchool Parent Portal offers parents and guardians real-time access to your child's grades and attendance. After accessing the Parent Portal, you can also request information regarding grades and attendance to be sent to your e-mail address on a regular basis. The Parent Portal is an easy to use communications tool that will allow  you to take a more active role in your child's education.

Are my child's records available for others to see?

No, a user ID and password are provided to allow access for only authorized users to the appropriate student records. We ask that you keep your user ID and password confidential.

What should I do if I lost my user ID and password information?

If you have already created an account using the new system (beginning September, 2015), you can click on the "I forgot my password" or "I forgot my username" links on the Parent Portal login page.  If you have not created an account since the new system launched in September 2015, you will need to contact your child's school to obtain the information. To protect your student's information, it is our policy that no username or passwords are given over the phone.

I did not receive a user ID or password for my child. Why?

Parents of students in grades K-2 will not receive user ID's and passwords at this time, because those grades do not use the gradebook feature available in PowerSchool. Only one user ID and password is created for each student.

How often can we expect information to be updated on the Parent Portal?

Attendance is reported daily. Unexcused absences will be updated when the attendance clerk has received the appropriate notice for the absence. Teachers will update grades on a regular basis, however certain factors may influence when certain grades appear. Essays and research papers may take longer to grade than a quiz or homework assignment. We urge parents and guardians to be patient as teachers do their best to return assignments and post grades as promptly as their schedule allows.

Will I be able to see all my child's grades?

The PowerSchool Parent Portal will provide you access to information on classes offered within Isle of Wight County Schools nine schools. Students enrolled at the New Directions Alternative Center, The Pruden Center, either Governor's Schools, or SECEP will not have grades available through PowerSchool for those classes.
